Why the cardiac result is the one to look at
Mitral valve disease is the condition that shortens Cavalier lives more than any other, and most health claims in this breed rest on a general vet listening to the heart for a moment. Rusty’s is an advanced cardiac: auscultation, an ECG, and an echocardiogram — an ultrasound of the heart itself, read by a specialist. It is the standard the breed clubs ask for, and it is uncommon enough that you should ask every breeder you speak to whether theirs is advanced or basic.
Episodic falling is a Cavalier-specific inherited disorder with a DNA test that most breeders never run. Rusty is clear.
What he has not had
Rusty has no eye certification on file and no MRI for syringomyelia. We would rather write that down than let you assume a complete panel from an impressive one.
His advanced cardiac was done in March 2024. Heart disease in this breed develops with age, so a result is a picture of a date, not a promise about the future.
The dog himself
Rusty is a gentle, slightly timid little gentleman with a lustrous red coat that waves just enough to catch the light. He is happiest riding along beside you, and his favourite work is visiting schools, where bringing a smile out of a nervous child is the whole point of the day. That temperament is why he is in our program, and it is what we are trying to put into his puppies.
He has already sired a litter here, including Griffin’s Pumpkin (AKC TS64787204), a ruby girl born 13 September 2024.
